暁のヨナ (Akatsuki no Yona) Episode 10 Review

Finally, the first dragon!

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

RED HAIR!
RED HAIR!

As Hak and Yona arrived in the village, Yun is trapped in a cell where he screams and shout for him to be released. It was then revealed to Yun that everyone’s demeanor changed when they found out that Yona had red hair.

While resting, the head of the protectors of the White Dragon explained to them why they had treated them with contempt and yet Hak questioned why they clamored for Yona’s red hair. It was because of the legend about waiting for the person with red hair is the person that they were waiting for,

In the highest tower where the White Dragon resides, it is shown that his right arm holds the source of his power and his predecessors had all been waiting for the master that needs his power.

I am here to protect the village!

Noticing that the village are lively for the time of day, the white dragon decided to see why outsiders were allowed in the village. As he tried to intimidate the outsiders, he had seen Yona’s red hair and like the other villagers, he is surprised with the red hair. With a glimpse of the hair, his right arm throbbed with power and with intense pain, fell unconscious because of it. This prompted to a flashback where his father had informed him of his duties as the descendant of the White Dragon’s blood.

As introductions are made, the White Dragon seemed to be enamored about Yona — mainly because it has been drilled to him that the person that their generation have been longed for will be his master. And because of this, the White Dragon had declared himself as a loyal servant of Yona.

Before they travel once again, a feast must be given to celebrate finding the red-haired person in the legends. Meanwhile, Hak entered the White Dragon’s room asking him if he has things that can be used while they are travelling. In response, the White Dragon offered him money, but in exchange, Hak must leave the protection of Yona should be the job of the dragons.

Angered, Hak told Yona what the White Dragon wants and she favored Hak in a sense that she can not leave him. Another argument erupted between Hak and the White Dragon after Yona wrongfully explained why she needs the White Dragon with them as well.

After the feast, they left the very next day and everyone in the village are teary-eyed seeing the White Dragon follow the legend’s path. As they arrived at the fork on a road, the White Dragon informed them that he can determine where the other dragons are by focusing on their signal.

As they chose the next path to travel, Yona casually asked the White Dragon his name, which he gladly gave. His name is Ki-ja.

This episode is more about how Ki-ja came to be one of the dragons of the legend and how he seemed to be brainwashed into falling in love with the master that they are waiting. It was unfortunate that Yona is a woman and Ki-ja automatically thinks that his “love” with the master in the legend translates to the love between a man and a woman.

I am Ki-ja.
I am Ki-ja.

Poor Hak, there’s another person beside you that can protect the princess and is in rivals with Yona’s affection. Yona, being her naive self, doesn’t understand the flirtations she gives to the men around her — which really is bothersome as she knows what is to love, but doesn’t understand the effect of her actions against people who are in love with her.

Time will tell if Yona will still act like a naive girl or will she let it known that her feelings are safely kept in a box with now key until either she gets her answers from Soo-woon or kill the traitor.
