The sky that the three of us looked up at together is gone.
This episode contains separate flashbacks about the past relationship of Yona, Hak and Soo-Won; as well as their relationship with the King.
At first, we get a glimpse of Hak’s childhood with his adoptive
grandfather, General Mundok. This also explains how he became the general of the king, replacing his grandfather.
Hak was really against in becoming one of the generals for the king and the protector of the princess. At this point, Hak is already in love with Yona, unfortunately, the princess is oblivious to this. Hak always teases the princess and always gets reminded that Yona is in love with Soo-Won. This scenario is the real reason why he does not want to be part of the king’s army.
It was when Lord Kang Tae-jun, the son of the Fire Tribe, decided to manhandle Yona that Hak inadvertently announced himself to be Yona’s bodyguard. With delight, King Il approved of the announcement. It was as if he knows/predicted that he does not have enough time in the world and wants to secure Yona’s future as early as now.
The next flashback centers how the King loved his daughter very much, despite being busy will all the things he need to accomplish. It was never a hindrance to visit and make his daughter smile. We can also see a glimpse of the Soo-Won and his wish for the them to be together for a long time.
As Hak and Yona continues to trek across the mountain, the princess can’t still face the reality that the person she loves had killed her father. Hak continues to become bitter to Soo-Won as he had already accepted the fact that there is no chance for Yona to notice him and yet Yona’s love was tossed away like garbage.
The scenes in this episode really solidify the feelings Hak is harboring for the princess and yet despite not being noticed, he continues his selfless service by protecting her. This episode also explains why both Hak and Yona felt betrayed with what Soo-Won has done, and questioned if Soo-Won was only pretending to be their friend from the very beginning. It was both a nightmare and a reality check for the both of them.
But what does Soo-Won really want? To become king? He could easily become one if he stayed long enough and Yona marries him. But it seems there’s an underlying reason that hasn’t been revealed.
